SUMMARY:CYPF Annual Conference 2025 - Beyond the Label: Getting It Right for Neurodivergent Young People
DESCRIPTION:Our chair Jane Green MBE will be presenting in a panel with Dr Anita Marsden\, Jennifer Law\, Emmie Fisher and Dr Sarah Glew on education\, neurodivergent children\, school attendance\, avoidance and support. \nOrganised by the BPS Division of Clinical Psychology – Faculty for Children\, Young People and their Families\, this one-day\, in-person conference explores how we understand\, support\, and stand alongside neurodivergent children and young people (CYP) in a world still catching up with what it truly means to support neurodivergent lives in context. \n\nThe conference theme is Beyond the Label\, reflecting our commitment to: \n\nSeeing the child and young person\, not just the diagnosis.\nListening to unheard voices.\nMoving beyond narrow clinical categories toward more relational\, inclusive\, and culturally aware approaches.\n\n\nThis event is for those working with children\, young people and their families who are: \n\nPsychologists\, counsellors\, psychotherapists\, psychiatrists\, and other allied professionals.\nAcademics\, researchers\, and students in psychology\, education\, or related disciplines.\nTrainees and early career professionals in clinical\, counselling forensic\, and educational contexts.\nLived experience advocates and community partners working with CYP.\nCommissioners\, policy-makers\, and those shaping services and systems of support.\n\nWe especially encourage attendance from those with an interest in neurodivergence\, education\, justice\, inclusion\, mental health\, and systems change. \n\nToo often\, neurodivergent young people find themselves navigating systems that were not designed with their full diversity of needs and experiences in mind. This conference brings together practitioners\, researchers\, and people with lived experience to challenge diagnostic silos\, reframe risk\, and explore culturally responsive\, creative\, and meaningful ways of working. We’ll ask questions like: \n\nWhat happens when neurodivergence is missed or misunderstood in forensic or care settings?\nHow do cultural narratives and stigma shape parental engagement and access to services?\nWhat does trauma look like for neurodivergent young people?\nHow can we support emotional safety and connection in those who are ‘out of school’ or ‘hard to reach’?\nWhere are the opportunities for real innovation – and are we ready to take them?\n\n\n\n\nRegister: https://www.bps.org.uk/event/cypf-annual-conference-2025-beyond-label-getting-it-right-neurodivergent-young-people

SUMMARY:Seed Talks Presents - The ADHD & Women Summit
DESCRIPTION:Please join our chair Jane Green MBE and many others at the ADHD Women Summit on November 1st. \nJane will be speaking on body brains burnout – Your Body is Talking But Can You Hear It? \nResearch shows that in childhood\, boys are diagnosed with ADHD 3-4 times more than girls. By adulthood\, the ratio evens out to nearly 1:1 highlighting how girls and women with ADHD are often misdiagnosed and misunderstood in the medical framework. \nWith increased diagnoses and growing strains on the NHS and other support services\, the ADHD & Women Summit aims to increase awareness and knowledge on the specific issues women with ADHD face. \nLearn about ADHD and the distinct ways women experience it from leading experts at this groundbreaking conference.

SUMMARY:The invisible impact of COVID-19 on hypermobility syndromes and neurodivergence - bodies\, brains and burnout
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an in-depth exploration of the links between Generalised Joint Hypermobility (GJH)\, hypermobility Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes (hEDS) and the closely related Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders (HSD)\, with post-COVID health complications\, henceforth described as hypermobility. We will explore the concept of “Bendy-Brain”\, linking Hypermobility with multi-organ involvement (gastrointestinal\, genitourinary\, cardiovascular\, autonomic nervous system\, neurodivergence\, and brain) in susceptible patients. \nWe will learn about the genetics\, immunology\, and cytokine cascades\, MCAS\, and resulting dysregulation of the autonomic nervous system\, GI tract\, and multiple organs. The impact and importance of co-occurring neurodivergent conditions is also discussed and the wider implications for health and education. \nWe learn how to treat the histamine overload and dysautonomia and the resulting escalation of chronic fatigue and pain/fibromyalgia with new treatments. We also look at spike protein retention and how this might be the ultimate trigger. We will explore recent research on the origins and exacerbation of these widespread\, persistent health issues\, alongside potential solutions to restore patients’ well-being. \nCOVID-19 has disproportionately impacted patients with hypermobility conditions. hEDS / HSD is a heritable connective tissue disorder with weakened proteins like collagen found throughout the body. We ascertain that around 20% of the UK population\, 14 million people\, are susceptible to injury or illness due to having symptomatic hypermobility. \nRecent studies show that those with GJH as a risk factor and already with it are 30% less likely to recover from COVID-19 infection. Post-COVID\, we can still see the ongoing ‘fall out’ of hypermobile and neurodivergent patients. Particularly young\, working-age people are rendered disabled and more women are affected than men. \nThis is a must-attend event for medical professionals\, researchers\, policy makers\, educators\, and patient advocates seeking to enhance their understanding of hypermobility and its complex interplay with post-COVID conditions. Attendees will gain valuable insights into early diagnosis\, specialist care\, and targeted interventions such as neuromodulation for fibromyalgia and chronic pain. The programme will also cover emerging therapies\, lifestyle interventions\, and the latest advancements in personalised patient management. Don’t miss this opportunity to stay ahead in the field and contribute to the ongoing dialogue on improving care for those with Hypermobility. \n\nBook Tickets via The Royal Society of Medicine’s website: https://www.rsm.ac.uk/events/rheumatology-and-rehabilitation/2024-25/rrt02/

SUMMARY:Neurodivergence Day with SEDSConnective
DESCRIPTION:Join us in the Jubilee Library foyer as we celebrate Neurodivergence Day! Led by some of our volunteers from SEDSConnective\, this is a great opportunity to learn about neurodivergence\, hypermobility\, and their connection to conditions like Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS). \nNeurodivergence means having a brain that processes\, learns\, and behaves differently. Research suggests that our connective tissues may also be different\, impacting both body and brain. Despite this\, the connection has been overlooked in healthcare\, education\, and daily life—something SEDSConnective is working hard to change. \n\nHow can you help? \n\nVisit our stand\, ask questions\, and show your support\nDonate to help us continue our advocacy and research\nGo multicoloured to represent ADHD\, Autism\, Dyspraxia\, Dyslexia\, Tourette’s\, Hypermobile EDS\, POTS\, MCAS\, and more\nShare your photos and experiences online to help raise awareness for SEDSConnective 🦓♾️\n\n✨ Keep a lookout! Our friends over at Brighton Pier will be turning the lights multicoloured in celebration of Neurodivergence Day! 🌈
